I am a native of North Dakota raised on a family farm right on the border of North Dakota and Montana. I started working in the field of helping others when I was sixteen years old. My first meaningful job was in a residential home helping adult individuals with severe developmental disabilities. It was quite a learning experience at such a young age to say the least!
I obtained my Bachelor's Degree in psychology from Moorhead State University. Following my Master’s Degree, I remained at the community mental health center first completing my hours for my licensure and then I served in administrative and clinical supervision roles. I had strong clinical skills in addition to natural leadership skills. After over 10 years with the community mental health center, I decided to go into private practice which has been an amazing experience.
I have experience in dealing with a many diverse concerns. I have helped individuals and families deal with the grief that can accompany a new diagnosis of a mental illness. Throughout my career, I have worked with individuals suffering from severe trauma and worked with these individuals on learning to re-build their lives. I also have extensive experience in working with personality disorders, mainly borderline personality disorder and antisocial personality disorder.
My licensure includes Licensed Professional Counselor-Mental Health (LPC-MH) and Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP). Both of these licenses are through the state of South Dakota. I am also trained in EMDR.
